Becoming An Artist Was I Selected

Becoming an artist: Was I selected?

A great retrospective is one that makes a difference to our understanding of an artist’s work. For Cheryl, artists seem to go into their own space and produce in very different ways. Complexity of content develops its greatest potency through the depth, breadth and repetition of the work they have made over decades, which can only be made palpable through experiencing the volume of works in a well-selected retrospective.

Artist Cheryl Ehlers And Heritage At The Brooks Theatre Art Gallery

Oceanside, Brooks Theatre Gallery, October 5, 2019, 5-9pm will present the exhibition “Heritage” during the First Friday Art Walk and Foxfire performances.

Cheryl Ehlers and members of the Sargent Art Group will be presenting art unique to the Appalachian culture which coincides with the Oceanside Theater Company’s production, Foxfire, set in the mountains of the Appalachians, the production is an anthology of wisdom and simplistic lifestyles. Much of the fascinating Appalachian lore woven into the play is drawn from the famous Foxfire books, the outgrowth of a north Georgia high school project in the ’60s that helped keep Appalachian culture and tradition alive through oral history. There’s bluegrass music with fiddle and banjo and dulcimer, the sweetness of homemade jams and jellies, brilliant quilts and handmade baskets and wooden toys. The old traditions of spinning, blacksmithing, and woodworking are as important as the traditions, folktales, and superstitions...
